Youth Voices Through Film: The “Focus Community” in Romania

Part of the CIVIC IN Webinar Series

On August 6th, we explored how filmmaking can become a powerful tool for youth expression and civic engagement in Romania.

The “Focus Community” program, co-created by the 4/3 Association and local partners, brings documentary storytelling to rural and small-town areas where young people rarely have access to creative platforms.

What began in 2023 across five communities has already started to amplify youth voices, sharing real-life stories of resilience, hope, and local challenges. Through practical workshops and community support, participants are not just learning to use a camera — they are learning to tell their own stories and shape the narrative of their lives.

During this session, we heard how this hands-on approach encourages civic participation while building connection, identity, and leadership in places often overlooked.

A heartfelt thank you to the Focus Community team and to the young storytellers who shared their creativity, passion, and vision with us.

This session was part of the CIVIC IN webinar series – short, inspiring online meetings that highlight how informal groups across Europe create real social impact.

If you missed it, more powerful stories are on the way:
13 August – Hungary: Support structures for new civic groups
27 August – Poland: A legal “umbrella” helping informal groups act safely and effectively

These are short but meaningful one-hour sessions.
One story. One community. Real impact.
